Our Self-Catering and Shepherd’s Huts are all well thought out and equipped to ensure that home comforts and modern needs are met. Set amongst the rolling West Dorset hills with panoramic views, whatever you want from your stay this is a perfect place to base yourself. The rural setting gives a feeling of being worlds away from civilisation but we are only 2 miles from Beaminster and 20 minutes from the coast at Bridport. There is so much to see and do that one stay will not be enough to exhaust the possibilities of this stunning area.
North Buckham is a family run beef and sheep farm with mainly Aberdeen Angus cattle and 250 Clun Forest sheep. Lambing starts mid-April and goes on into late May. We also have our working collie dog, Scott, farm cats, a selection of chickens and Magic the horse. Chicken feeding and egg collecting is popular with all ages as is orphan lamb feeding. Switch off, Enjoy some quality time and escape routine.
The purpose built glass fronted viewing hide is tucked into the hillside, and gives a wonderful opportunity to see badgers in their natural environment. You will be able to watch them emerge from their setts and make their way across to forage in front of the hide. See beaminsterbadgers.co.uk for more information.
OUT & ABOUT
The characterful old market town of Beaminster has a good selection of independent shops including traditional butchers, bakers, grocers, gift shops, pubs, tearooms and a museum. Arts and Crafts are accessible all over the area. Lyme Regis, Bridport, Dorchester and Sherborne have a good choice of individual and unique shops. Axnoller and Mapperton House wedding venues are close by. We are near the World Heritage Jurassic Coast which is well known for its fossils. Within 30 minutes of the farm you can find harbours, beaches, stunning coastal walks, historic houses, castles, ancient churches, beautiful gardens, museums and lots of events throughout the year, including music festivals, street fairs and agricultural shows.
WALKING, CYCLING & HORSE RIDING
Whether you are a serious hiker, or just enjoy a stroll, the farm and surrounding area can offer stunning scenery with far reaching views over rolling countryside and to the sea. There are tracks and byways criss-crossing Dorset offering cyclists as much challenge as they wish. A leisurely hack taking in sea views or riding lessons may be enjoyed at Bidlake Farm, Bridport.
WILDLIFE, NATURE & PHOTOGRAPHY
Spring bulbs bursting through, autumn colours creeping in, morning mists hanging in the valley below, a crisp frost on a winter’s morning or the horizon ablaze with a dramatic sunset; the ever changing scenery never fails to impress. This is a great area to photograph the wildlife, countryside and coastal scenery. Local wildlife photographer Colin Varndell offers various photography days.
